PipNest Privacy Policy

PipNest is an app for bird breeders to keep records of their birds, pairs, eggs and chicks. This policy explains what data PipNest handles, where it is stored, and who it is shared with. It applies to the PipNest app for Android and iOS.

Your records stay on your device

Everything you enter in PipNest (birds, pairs, nests, eggs, chicks, weights, photos, notes, reminders and settings) is stored only on your device. PipNest has no account, no sign-in and no cloud: we do not run servers that receive your records, and we cannot see them.

Backups and exports

When you make a backup or an export (CSV or JSON), PipNest creates a file and you choose where to save or share it. That file is yours: it is only sent where you send it.

Permissions

Camera and photos: used only when you add a picture of a bird. Photos are stored inside the app on your device.

Notifications: used to remind you of hatch windows and the reminders you set. Notifications are scheduled on your device.

Tracking (iOS): iOS asks whether ads may use your device’s advertising identifier. You can refuse; PipNest works the same.

Advertising (Google AdMob)

PipNest is funded by ads served by Google AdMob. To show ads, measure them and prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK collects data such as your device’s advertising identifier, your approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and app information, and how you interact with ads.

In the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland you are asked for consent before any ad is shown. If you decline, ads are not personalised. You can change your choice at any time in Settings > Privacy & ads, and you can reset or limit your advertising identifier in your device settings.

Ads are limited to content suitable for general audiences. Your birds, photos and notes are never shared with advertisers.

Usage statistics (Google Analytics for Firebase)

Usage statistics are on by default, except in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, where they stay off until you turn them on. While they are on, PipNest sends anonymous events such as “bird added”, “egg recorded” or “backup made”, and which tools are opened, to Google Analytics for Firebase, to help improve the app.

These events never contain names, notes, ring numbers, record identifiers or anything you type, and they are not used for advertising. You can turn them off at any time in Settings > Privacy & ads.

Who we share data with

PipNest shares data only with the service providers above: Google AdMob (ads) and, while usage statistics are on, Google Analytics for Firebase. They process data under their own policies (Google Privacy Policy). We do not sell your data, and we do not share your records with anyone.

Keeping and deleting data

Your records stay on your device until you delete them. Deleting a record removes it from the app, and uninstalling PipNest removes all its data from your device (backup files you saved elsewhere are not affected). Data collected by Google is kept according to Google’s policies; you can reset your advertising identifier and turn off usage statistics at any time.

Security

Your records are kept in the app’s private storage on your device. Data sent to Google for ads and statistics is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS).

Children

PipNest is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
